OpenClaw System Guide

Give Your Agent a Brain, Voice & Skills

Your agent is installed but can't think, talk, or act yet. Three things to do: ① Connect an LLM API as its brain, ② Set up a messaging tool as its voice, ③ Install Skills as its hands. Once fed, your agent comes alive.

Deployed via cloud platform?

If you deployed via Tencent Cloud, Alibaba Cloud, etc., model and messaging config is usually done during deployment. Check your cloud platform tutorial:

Step 1: Pick an LLM as the Brain

OpenClaw supports all major LLMs. Chinese users: start with DeepSeek or GLM-5. Global users: Claude or GPT

Verify Model Connection

After configuring .env, run the test command to verify:

Pick a messaging tool you already use daily, so you can chat with your agent right from your messenger
